PERSONALITY
Five years ago, Dawn was quite the optimist, and always said things such as, "No need to worry!" However, once she got kidnapped by the Witches during one of her missions with Ash, she soon lost all hope of living. She had no idea if Ash was alive or not, and for all that mattered, she expected the worst. After all, he had almost lost his head. She started blaming herself for everything that happened to her surroundings, especially her firends, and became quiet, only speaking when spoken to.

She began closing her heart to others in two months, the period when she soon became a "modified witch" and got her animal: a penguin. Dawn was soon reminded of Piplup, and decided to treat her penguin as such. Dawn is highly delusional and speaks only to her penguin friend, especially about back home and how much she liked Ash...but she could never tell him how she felt herself.

Dawn is very shy around new people and doesn't like to speak much about the past, especially the past in Death City. Let me also note that ever since she became a "modified witch", she has celebrated Ash's birthday with a little blowing of the cupcake, but to those around her, they will not know who it's for, or even if it was for herself, but every time she is asked, she just simply states that, "It's just a memory," and denies the fact that Ash exists.

Basically, Dawn is a very lonely girl, even if she may have friends. She's a slave to everyone working with the witches and cannot disobey any of their orders, which makes her scared of everyone, even if she doesn't show it. After the five year long period of staying with them, she no longer says her catch phrase, "No need to worry," and if it's said by anybody, she will be shocked for a bit, though she'll eventually calm down once she realizes they're not quoting her. Unless they actually are quoting her.

Also, I am noting that since she is a "modified witch" and has to obey orders, she is scared of going back to Shibusen or seeing any of her friends because of what she is, and especially because she might get an order to kill the ones who she is close to.

HISTORY
Dawn's history is pretty much the same that it is in canon until she is sent into Death City: the first time being when Piplup learned Hydro Pump and the second being when she was returned home by BREW to witness most of the Sinnoh League (up to when Ash completes his battle with Conway). In Death City, she knows people that she wouldn't normally know, though both Ash and Brock are there, as well as Shaymin and Mewtwo, though she has yet to meet Mewtwo.

In Death City, Dawn gained the power of a Meister. The first person she ever met there was, of course, Ash Ketchum of Pallet Town, who was immediately worried about her because of the war that occurred in this place, and especially since this place was even more dangerous than back in Sinnoh, and he didn't want her getting hurt.

Soon enough, Dawn figured out about her power, though she didn't know how to use it. She soon told Ash and was excited, but Ash...was a Weapon, and didn't want Dawn to fight. At all. This was because Ash's former partner had died during the battle against Adachi (Persona 4). A whole bunch of things happen in Death City, such as the carnival, Shaymin and Brock's arrival, and the pagent.

But then: Dawn was sent home during the time the Madness Wavelength came out. She was gone for several days, until she reappeared near the end, not recalling Death City until she was told to. At this time, she was told that Ash was really worried about her...which is when her love for him deepened, and she realized that she could hold it back no longer.

So, she decided to ask the ladies of Death City about what to do...when the guy you like is so dense! She was suggested food, and Dawn ended up asking Brock to help her, freaking out mid-process. She knew Ash wasn't a good cook, and Brock would be the best way to keep things a secret. It took several days for Brock to teach her the basics, but she got it down pretty quickly, seeing as poffins were just as simple, and made a bento for her and Ash.

The two of them then had lunch together, and Dawn asked him if they could be more than just...friends. That's when the misunderstanding occured and Ash decided that they should be a Meister/Weapon team. Dawn thought that was alright for now, and said yes.

Timeskip several years into the future, after many missions have been completed and Ash became a Deathscythe, there was one special mission that would change her life forever. It was a battle between Shibusen and the Witches, and it was quite obvious what the outcome would be. Ash got injured...up to the point of death, and at that point, Dawn decided to give herself up to the Witches to stop seeing the pain of her best friends. Brock was also watching this as well- though he didn't get as hurt as Ash did.

Ash lost his voice on that day, and Dawn was taken to the Witches' headquarters, where she was turned into a "modified witch". She learned some spells and got a pet penguin who could control both water and ice, by only a little. Dawn soon became delusional, and wanting to throw her past away, she changed her name to "Hikari".

As of this moment, she doesn't know that her friends are trying their best to look for her, but Dawn has already given up.
